National Random Acts of Kindness Day+ What you can do to celebrate

Introduction

Every year on the 17th of February, we get together to celebrate the day of being kind to one another, and to celebrate friendship and the joy of giving.

This is the day where roses and poems are read to and by loved ones, and when flowers are picked up to be given to elderlies.

History of National Random Acts of Kindness Day

This day was first initiated by The Random Acts Of Kindness Foundation in 1995 (in Denver). In 2004, it spreaded further and further to New Zealand then across the globe. National Random Acts of Kindness Day was formed in hopes to bring more kindness into this world because a simple act of kindness can really make a difference.

Random acts of kindness you can do today - at school (as a student)

  • Give your friend a chocolate bar with an encouraging post-it message

  • Go give your friend a hug and tell them thank you for being there for you

  • Make someone smile - give them an inside joke, a pun, or a pick up line

  • Write short letters to teachers thanking them for their guidance and support

  • Compliment someone you aren’t that close with

Random acts of kindness you can do today - at work (as a boss)

  • Give them less work to do today

  • While handing employees piles of work to do, also include a note to motivate them

  • Remind employees that kindness is always the best policy

  • Give them a no-dress-code day so that they can have fun whilst celebrating this special day

  • Acknowledge that today is National Random Acts of Kindness Day

  • Confront the stressed and let them know you’re here for them and that you care about their wellbeing

Other random acts of kindness

  • (Starbucks barista) Draw a happy face next to their names on their cups

  • (Bookstore owner) Include a candy / smiley face note in new books for customers to find

  • (Siblings that are not close to each other) Give them a hug - even if it’s awkward

  • (From yourself, to yourself) Give yourself a pat on the back because the past few months have been tough and you managed to get through it

Kindness is a gift everyone can afford to give. It costs nothing, but means everything. Make a difference in the world today because kindness comes a long way, and the impact you make on others is immeasurable.

Happy kindness day <3 Don’t forget to treat yourself the way you want to be treated.
